New York Songwriters Circle

December 15th, 2008

Hi everyone, just want to give a shoutout to the New York Songwriters Circle. We played in the circle for the second time tonight at the Bitter End, and it was another fantastic experience. The way it works is on a given night, the performers for the night all get on stange and take turns playing their songs. Usually it seems to be solo performers, or sometimes duos. We played with some really amazing musicians tonight, including Rob Mathes, Caleb Hawley, Jenny Bruce, and Nick Deutsch. The circle is run by Tina Shafer, a fantastic performer and songwriter herself.  It is hard to explain, but being in New York City can often feel like you are surrounded by strangers all the time, and you can forget that making music can actually be something special that brings people together. Tina’s group really makes you feel like you are a part of a great group of people, and that singing and writing songs and performing them is such a great thing to do. She obviously believes in the power of music, and there is something about taking turns and listening to each other in small doses that makes it all seem so selfless. So, I suggest you check it out sometime, they do shows in New York, Philly, I think Boston. Yes. Good stuff. - Elliot

The Livingroom tonight

December 5th, 2008

Sunroom is playing at The Livingroom in the Lower East Side NYC tonight. Really looking forward to this show because, ah, well, the Livingroom is probably the best space in the city for us to play. The sound is just perfect, and the vibe really fits us. For fun we are playing with our friends Jeremy Noller on drums, Patrick Wolff on saxophone, and Nadje Noordhuis on trumpet, so this could be our loudest show yet. I really want to record it somehow, but the Livingroom doesn’t really allow that, so I will have to sneak a little digital recorder in and see what we can get. OK, yes, our “loudest show yet” is relative, someday I really need to get Ethan’s Fender Rhodes to a show and plug it into a Fender guitar amp and get some serious distortion going. Until then, check out these videos from Pianos, April 4th, 2008.

Fleet Foxes

November 20th, 2008

Hey, just wanted to tell anyone stopping by to check out a new band that we are really into. Fleet Foxes. Woohoo! Young guys from Northwest USA, they can sing, play, write great songs, and have a peaceful passion that is just infectious. If you haven’t heard them yet, check out “White Winter Hymnal”, for which they made an amazing claymation infused video (claymation is another thing that I flip for, so it all just makes sense). Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrQRS40OKNE. Hm, I might be able to add the video right here. Does this work::?

I bought the album on vinyl (yes, I’m one of those guys) and love it.
